Iceland Leads Broadband Adoption

One of the biggest developments in the last few decades has been the advent of the Internet. Starting from its humble origins as Arpanet, a U.S-based Defense Network project to today's behemoth that has pervaded our daily existence. For an increasingly large number of people its the primary source of information and news. We have come a long way from the slow dialups where it would take ages to just load a single page to today when a newly released movie is just hours away. The growth of the Internet has been driven mainly by the tremendous increase in access speeds enabled by the sheer pace of growth of broadband. Without the tremendous speeds and connectivity that broadband offers, it is downright impossible to make full use of the resources of the Internet. As such, the push for faster broadband access is gaining momentum worldwide, and the latest reports being released show that some of the most unlikely countries are at the forefront of the mass Internet revolution.According to the Organization for Economic and Cooperation and Development, Iceland, surprising everyone, currently boasts the highest penetration rate among the group's 30 richest nations in the world, with 26.7 percent of the population having broadband access. Tech mad South Korea came in at second place at a very close 25.4 percent, while the Netherlands and Denmark hot on their heels at 25.3 percent and 25.0 percent respectively.
