MS woos WebOS developers with free WP phones


Microsoft is looking to salvage what’s left of HP’s WebOS tablets and phones, in this case, their developers. Brandon Watson, Senior Director, Windows Phone 7 Development made an announcement on Twitter informing WebOS developers that Microsoft would give them whatever was needed to be successful on Windows Phone. This would include free phones, development tools, as well as training. There’s clearly a rush of entries from interested developers. Brandon Watson has been responding to requests on Twitter informing interested individuals on how to register for tools and the training. HP recently announced that they were stopping development of phones and tablets, but surprisingly, they have plans for continued WebOS development.

Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 hasn’t seen the same amount of enthusiasm as Android and iOS, so the number of developers working on apps for Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 has most likely not been as per expectation. Microsoft in this small gesture plans to woo WebOS developers. Whether or not WebOS developers will choose to go the Windows Phone 7 way or instead focus on the massively more popular iOS and Android projects is to be seen. With Windows 8 coming soon and WP7 not yielding expected results, it’ll be interesting to see how long it will be before developers will be asked to start working on WP8 ap
