LG to showcase new screens at CES 2013

Lots of companies are gearing up to show off new technology at the upcoming CES 2013. According to GSMArena, LG is set to follow suit and showcase some screens of its own. The screens that will be shown by the company range from 4.7-inch phone screens to 84-inch TVs, all of which sport high resolutions.

The 4.7-inch screen is betting on a thin bezel which measures at 1mm, making the phone more compact than other devices in the category. The 5.5-inch screen packs a pixel density of 403 ppi and will undoubtedly be the company's next attempt at a phablet device. The company will also be showing off a 7-inch screen, which will presumably be used on a tablet. The screen has a resolution of 1920 x 1200, giving it a pixel density of 324 ppi.

Other screens that will be showcased by LG include a 12.9-inch display with a resolution of 2560 x 1700 and a 13.3-inch laptop screen with a 2mm bezel.

The bigger screens showcased by the company include UHD TVs that have a resolution of 3840 x 2160 and will come in 55-inch, 65-inch, and 84-inch sizes. A 30-inch PC monitor, which packs a resolution of 4096 x 2160, will also be shown.

The 5.5-inch screen could be the one to be featured on the upcoming LG Optimus G2. According to an earlier report, the G2 is rumoured to sport a screen of the same size, with a 1080p resolution, giving it a pixel density of 440ppi.

With the recently announced HTC Butterfly, aka the HTC Droid DNA or HTC J Butterfly in select markets, having a pixel density of 440ppi, one would think that the Optimus G2 would not have a display as crisp as that of the HTC handset. But this would not be the case as one would not be able to tell the difference between the two.

The Optimus G2 is also rumoured to be coming out in the first half of 2013. And if launched in this time frame, it would come as some good competition to the Samsung Galaxy S IV, which is expected to be launched around the same time.

An earlier report stated that LG plans to launch a successor to the Optimus G in May next year; it will reportedly go by the name Optimus G2 with LG’s current flagship smartphone titled the LG Optimus G.

LG is in talks with LG Innotek and LG Display to unveil a smartphone with a Full HD display half a year earlier than previously scheduled launch date. It was previously believed that the Optimus G2 was expected to have a screen with 440ppi and this screen would be 1.5 times clearer than the Apple iPhone. Compared to a 40-inch Full HD TV, the display featured here is expected to be five to six times clearer. This display will measure 5-inches. However, the latest report claims otherwise and now the display is rumoured to measure 5.5-inches with 440ppi.
