Updated Facebook app for BlackBerry brings added BBM connectivity

Interesting, interesting surprise up for BlackBerry users today, as Facebook app for BlackBerry smartphones has been updated to version 3.3. The updated package comes with a host of new features and increased BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) connectivity. Users trying out the updated app, will also enjoy the new, refreshed look of the icons and navigation. Elaborating upon one of the first changes in the new version, an official post shares that now users can discover and add their BBM friends and begin BBM chats right from within the updated Facebook app. In fact, initiating the BBM chat is seamless and this way, users can chat with their friends and know about their latest updates.

The updated Facebook app, will allow BlackBerry users to share their BlackBerry PIN with their Facebook friends and discover which of their Facebook friends use BBM. Once users have discovered those using BBM, all they need to do is tap on the new BBM icon to invite them and add them as a contact. Interestingly, unfriending someone has been made easy too. Users can easily un-friend someone directly from within Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones.

What's a social network that doesn't let you do some sharing. The updated Facebook app will allow BlackBerry users a way to view their photos faster and at a higher resolution. They will also be able to view the thumbnails of all their photos, to help them with easy browsing. Additionally, they can also view a photo on a full-screen for viewing the big picture. Users can also save their photos to their device or media card.

Here’s the update at a glance -
  • Refreshed Look and Feel
  • BBM integration – Share your PIN, Invite to BBM, and Chat with BBM contacts
  • Ability to un-friend in app
  • Photo Enhancements – Higher resolution, faster viewing and more ways to interact

The app is available for download on the BlackBerry App World, and to be able to enjoy the update, users will need BlackBerry Device Software 5.0 or higher. Aditionally, Facebook v1.9 is available for BlackBerry Device Software 4.5 - 4.7.

A lot has been happening on the Facebook front over the past few days - be it rumours of it buying popular messaging service, Whatsapp, to allowing users who have no Facebook account to use its messenger service. Facebook has opened up its messenger service to people who aren't registered with the social network, and you can now use Facebook Messenger to chat using only your name and mobile number.

Facebook updated its Android app yesterday to embrace a wider audience base by removing the necessity to be a Facebook member to use the messenger service. It could help in enticing more non-members to use Facebook services while giving existing users a bonus by letting them chat with friends who are not on the social networking website.
