EA releases launch trailer for Need for Speed: Most Wanted

With the imminent release of the latest entry in the Need for Speed franchise – Need for Speed: Most Wanted – EA has released a launch trailer for the game that has some gameplay video.

Though nothing new in the video has been shown, it does show off some of the graphical fidelity that the game is capable of as your car travels at breakneck speeds and takes down opponents’ vehicles. The game will be available on the Xbox 360 on November 2, while the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita versions of the game will be available on November 5. The PC version will see an even later release on November 9.

EA had also recently released a trailer for Need for Speed: Most Wanted that explained the multiplayer of the game, including what game modes it’ll feature. To kick off multiplayer events, players have to drive to Race Lists strewn across the city that have a variety of different game modes, from simple races to all out takedown battles to jumping competitions. The game also features a progression system where you can level up to unlock mods for your car, as well as complete challenges such as finishing a race with no tyres to unlock License Plates that will display when you take down an opponent.

The Need for Speed series has been one of the most successful racing game series, besides being one of the most successful video game franchises. The games in the series have been published by Electronic Arts (EA) and developed by several studios including Canada-based company EA Black Box and Britain-based Criterion Games. NFS was originally developed by Canadian company Distinctive Software, which later became known as EA Canada. As of October 2009, the game series has sold over 100 million copies.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that the iOS and Android version of Most Wanted will be released later this month. EA had made the announcement along with a trailer that shows some of the gameplay on the mobile versions of the game. The trailer shows that the game will feature good graphics, along with the same gameplay that will be there in the other versions of Most Wanted, including the Takedown mechanic, which was originally featured in the Burnout series. According to the company, “Need For Speed Most Wanted features stunning dynamic physics-based collisions, exciting cop takedowns, and realistic visual damage.” The physics-based collisions would probably help a great deal with the gameplay, thanks to the ability to execute Takedowns.

The series has always been known for its arcadey racing gameplay as opposed to the more realistic simulation games such as Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport. Since Black Box’s last Need for Speed - Undercover, EA has released three games in the series from different developers. While Slightly Mad steered the series into Simulation territory with the shift games, Criterion brought the series back to its roots with the reboot Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.

The upcoming game in the Need for Speed franchise is Need for Speed: Most Wanted and is being developed by Criterion.
