Google announces Nexus 4, Nexus 10, new Nexus 7, Android v4.2

Google has announced the latest devices in its Nexus line-up, along with a new flavour of Android - version 4.2. The new version is still named Jelly Bean. A revised version of the Nexus 7 tablet, a new 10-inch tablet called the Nexus 10, and Nexus 4, LG's offering with the Nexus branding were announced today by Google on its official blog.

The most important feature of the revised model of the Asus-manufactured Nexus 7 is its HSPA+ connectivity. The new Nexus 7 will be available in 16GB and 32GB capacities. The 16GB version will cost $199, which converts to roughly Rs 10,761. The 32GB version will cost $249, approximately Rs 13,465. The HSPA+ enabled Nexus 7 will be able to operate on more than 200 GSM providers around the world.

Another device unveiled today by Google is the Nexus 10. The 10-inch tablet co-manufactured with Samsung has a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, and density of 300 pixels per inch (ppi). Google states that the battery life of the tablet stands at 500 hours of standby time, and nine hours of video playback. The inclusion of Android v4.2, allows you to add multiple users, making it the first Android tablet that is truly shareable.

The Nexus 4 is Google's latest smartphone, developed together with LG. It has a quad-core processor, a crisp 4.7-inch (320 ppi) display, and with wireless charging you just set the phone down on a charging surface to power it up, no wires needed. This device too runs on Android v4.2 said to be the simplest and smartest version of Android yet. Starting with the camera, the company has reinvented the photo experience with Photo Sphere, which lets you capture shots up, down, and in every direction to create 360-degree experiences that you can share on Google+. You can also add your Photo Sphere to Google Maps for the world to see.

The Nexus devices currently are listed as unavailable in India at the Google Play Store.

Android v4.2 brings other great goodies such as Gesture Typing, which lets you glide your finger over the letters you want to type on the keyboard — thus adding the functionality of the Swype keyboard into the stock Android keyboard. Android v4.2 also adds support for wireless display so you can wirelessly watch movies, YouTube videos, and play games right on a Miracast-compatible HDTV.

Another major feature of the latest version of Android is the update to Google Now, a service that Google had introduced with the Jelly Bean version of the Android operating system. Google has added more features to Google Now. The service can now alert you of flight and hotel recommendations, as well as about nearby attractions, photo spots, movie times, and concert timings.

Google has also announced expansion of its Google Play service, bringing more content to more countries. The company has partnered with Twentieth Century Fox, Time, People, InStyle, and others, to bring more TV shows, movies, and magazines to the service. Along with this, Google has partnered with Warner Music Group, which will add its complete music catalogue with new songs being added every day. The company plans to launch the expanded Google Play in Europe on November 13, with the first countries to get it being the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain.
